Licence

gcportrait’s own work, its code, its texts and its images, is licensed under the MIT License (MIT). Copyright © 2026 Florian Chrometz.

The licence text is LICENSE in the repository (also at gcportrait-LICENSE.txt on this site). Every source file names the licence in its first lines with the line SPDX-License-Identifier: MIT.

What you may do

Use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense and sell gcportrait, run it for yourself or for others, on its own or as part of your own software or services, commercially or not. The one condition: the copyright notice and the permission notice stay with every copy or substantial portion of it. It comes without warranty.

The licence asks nothing of an instance you run, modified or not. The app still links its source in its footer on every page, “Source (MIT)”, as a courtesy to the people who use an instance: it points at this project’s repository by default, and an instance that runs a modified version can point it at its own source (the backend’s SOURCE_URL, configuration reference).

The gcportrait name and icon

The gcportrait name and the gcportrait icon are not covered by the MIT License. They identify this project and may not be used to present other software or services as gcportrait or as endorsed by it; forks must use their own name and icon.

The icon is brand/icon.svg and every rendering of it: the favicons, this website’s logo and the app’s mark, the wordmarks, and the mark on the link-preview images. The details are in brand/LICENSE.md.
